Building a sustainable data governance program can be challenging. Companies’ data is immense, complex, and continually growing. Although data should be easy to access and use, the sheer size of our companies, the quantity of systems, and the number of users make establishing standards, defining rules, and managing it all seem overwhelming. Unfortunately, many data governance initiatives miss the mark because they identify too many objectives, don’t specify goals, and don’t measure results. Sometimes this happens because there are simply too many issues to address.

It’s critical to begin a governance program by assessing your strengths, identifying your needs, and then prioritizing your goals. The choices and options for goals can be daunting. Do you start with data standards? Do you focus on policies? Do you address data accuracy issues?

The focus shouldn’t be data management perfection; the focus should be about fixing problems. During this session, we’ll discuss the key capabilities of data governance and provide a framework to assess your organization’s strengths and weaknesses in order to identify and target your data governance goals.
