Presentation:  Data Storytelling: How to turn data into action
Too often, data insights fall short of actionable change due to the lack of a compelling story.  A systematic data story process can provide the framework needed to start any project or problem so that you start with right goals and expectation that will lead to the data story needed for meaningful insights and solutions.  Dr. Charlie Apigian will walk through this process with an interactive scenario that allows you to experience the data story process from planning to analysis to story and finally business insights and analysis that are relatable and actionable.

    2:30 – 2:45

    Break

    2:45 – 3:45

Presentation: Next Generation Internal Auditing and Analytics
This presentation will include a discussion around what the next generation of internal audit looks like, why the shift to a continuous monitoring audit methodology is needed, and how to utilize enabling technologies (e.g., optical character recognition, process mining, data visualization, etc.) to make it a reality.  With the accelerating advancement of technological innovation, there is an expectation that people and processes become smarter, faster, and better and the Internal Audit function should be designed in a way where it is able to dynamically assess risk across the organization and agilely shift audit priorities accordingly.  Internal Audit must begin utilizing data in a way that continuously informs where to direct the audit focus throughout the year.  Participants in this session will leave with a clear vision of the next generation of internal audit, a roadmap to follow in implementing this next generation approach, and practical analytic and high impact reporting examples that can be incorporated at their organizations.

    Bios of Presenters

    Sharon Asmus

While Sharon Asmus has been in the data & analytics space for the majority of her 25+ year career, her professional passion is forming and guiding agile, high-performing teams.  Sharon become a Certified Scrum Master in 2008 while working at a Business Intelligence Architect for a transportation and logistics company.  They went from a loose waterfall project management process to using scrum.  It was a hard transition, but it was great front line exposure to the transition process.  This is where she fell in love with scrum.  Other scrum implementations that she led include converted an ERP cross-functional team from waterfall to scrum in addition to converting an entire IT organization to align with DevSecOps practices.  Most recently, Sharon completed the Pragmatic Institute Product Manager training, where she’s been focused on tweaking the agile scrum process to improve planning activities to align with product management.  That is, shifting from a project focus to a PRODUCT focus.

    Brian Ciampa

Brian Ciampa has been working with technology for 15 years and with data/analytics for 12. His interests and experience include the entire spectrum, including modeling, ETL, and presentation. While being born and raised in Middle Tennessee, Brian studied information systems at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He currently works for CGI as a BI Developer/Architect.
